Phacoemulsification is a modern cataract surgery in which the eye's internal lens is emulsified with an ultrasonic handpiece and aspirated from the eye. The aspirated fluid is replaced with irrigation of balanced salt solution to maintain the anterior chamber.
Ayaan Eye Hospital is a tertiary ophthalmic centre with a track record of eye care under one roof. We are engaged in training, research and outreach programmes, and run a long-standing cataract surgical training programme that covers both SICS and phaco.
Phaco is the technique behind most of the cataract work described on our cataract page, where the incision sizes, lens options and recovery are set out in full.
